The RCA will be presenting the 2008 California Business Legislative Summit Brochure to our elected officials. The brochure contains RCA and CalChamber positions on current legislation that will affect the business community.

On June 3, 2008 Californians will go back to the voting polls. On the ballot are two propositions dealing with eminent domain. Proponents of Prop. 99 argue that Prop. 98 is a “hidden agendas scheme”. Among other things, Prop. 98 will repeal rent control, and more importantly threaten California’s water quality and supply. California is currently facing an incredibly serious water crisis due to draught conditions and Supreme Court mandated cut backs in supply. Prop. 98 would make it “illegal to use eminent domain to acquire land and water to develop public water projects.” This would be coming at a critical time in California’s battle to develop new water delivery systems.
Prop. 99, the Homeowner’s Protection Act, will “prohibit the government from using eminent domain to take a home to transfer to a private developer.” Opponents of Prop. 99 argue that it could affect small business.
